Botox® injections are a relatively common form of non-invasive cosmetic surgery. It is frequently used to treat the vertical frown lines between the eyebrows, horizontal lines across the forehead, and crow’s feet along the eyes. In some cases, Botox® treatments in Seattle by Dr. Echavez may also be used to help with severe underarm sweating. The effects of Botox typically last from three to six months on the face, and normally last longer when used to treat underarm sweating.

Why Botox Injections?

If you’re looking for a way to achieve youthful looking skin, there are now several ways that allow you to do so without spending thousands of dollars. Injectables have now become a hot commodity in the cosmetic world and one that we all have heard of is Botox. Botox injections can be used to eliminate wrinkles or furrows on certain areas of the face, taking years off your appearance. These injections are a relatively common form of minimally invasive cosmetic treatments.

What’s a Botox Treatment?

Botox is a medical drug which was first used for treating muscular conditions and is now being used cosmetically to help reduce the signs of aging on the face. This gives the face a smooth look and allows your overall facial appearance to look younger for an extended period of time.

How Does Botulinum toxin work?

When used for cosmetic purposes, Botox works by temporarily blocking signals from specific facial muscle nerves and prevents the muscle from contracting. This means wrinkles relax in the affected area giving you a softer look. Many people use it in trouble spots such as to eliminate crow’s feet and more. Your doctor will determine the best spot to inject this formula and the acetylcholine that is released from the muscle junction under the skin is blocked. The muscles in the face are temporarily paralyzed and you can begin to see the results in as little as 48 hours.

Typically, results begin to wear off in about 3-5 months so you may want to get repeat treatments to keep up with results you have achieved. The whole procedure will last several minutes and is done in the doctor’s office. You’ll get full results in about a week and to avoid any complications you’ll need to avoid alcoholic beverages for at least a week before you have the treatment done. If you take aspirin or other OTC medications for anti-inflammatory purposes these will need to be stopped about 2 weeks before as well. This helps eliminate any bruising to your face.

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding you should avoid these injections. If you suffer with a neurological disease you should avoid getting Botox also. Because not all wrinkles are treatable with Botox, you may need to talk to your doctor to see if Botox is right for your particular circumstance.

REDUCE FINE LINES AND WRINKLES WITH DYSPORT

For years Botox has been the go to solution for women and men everywhere seeking treatment to reduce or eliminate lines  and wrinkles on the face. Recently a new treatment has been developed to give Botox a run for its’ money. Dysport is an FDA approved treatment for deep lines on the face. The effects last for at least three months and all the way up to six months. Call Dr. Echavez today to schedule your appointment to get a course of treatment with Dysport in Seattle.

WHAT IS DYSPORT?

Dysport is made from the same ingredient as Botox and became FDA approved in 2009. It was originally developed to treat neuromuscular disorders but once it was realized it could be used for cosmetic purposes it quickly become a common alternative to Botox. Although it is very similar to Botox it lasts longer and acts quicker than it.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Whenever you make a movement with your face whether it’s to smile or frown you are contracting facial muscles. These muscles are called dynamic wrinkles because once you stop moving your face they completely disappear but as you age the lines and wrinkles become more apparent since the skin loses its elasticity. Dysport is injected into the muscles that cause these facial wrinkles causing them to freeze in place.

WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR DYSPORT INJECTIONS?

If you have not suffered from any of these conditions you are eligible to receive Dysport injections:

  • ALS
  • Problems swallowing
  • Breathing disorders like asthma
  • Facial muscle weakness
  • Seizures
  • Diabetes
  • Heart disease
  • Bleeding problems

If you plan on having surgery on your face or you have received injections containing botulinum toxin within the past four months you should not try and receive Dysport treatment in Seattle.

WHAT IS THE TREATMENT LIKE?

Normally during treatment an anesthetic is not needed and many people find the injections to feel almost painless when they are receiving the injections. Dysport only needs to be injected between three to five times in an area to treat the lines. If you are still worried about how it will feel you can ask your doctor to use a numbing cream on the area being treated. Treatment usually only lasts for around 15 minutes and it can take up to several days for the full effect of treatment to be seen.

WHAT ARE THE RISKS AND COMPLICATIONS?

Like with Botox and any injectable treatment there are side effects to using Dysport. One big concern is that Dysport spreads from the injection site more than Botox does so you must make sure that you are receiving injections from a skilled doctor because if injected wrong the Dysport could spread to areas like your eyelids where you don’t want the muscles to relax. Other side effects that may occur are headaches and a particularly rare but life-threatening complication called botulism poisoning. Most of the cases of botulism poisoning have happened in cases where people were using Dysport for purposes besides what it is meant for.

Ready to become as common of a name as Botox, Dysport seems to have an edge when it comes to smoothing and reducing fine lines and wrinkles.
